In 1920, the King of Spain granted Madrid FC the "royal" distinction, leading to a name change, to Real Madrid CF, and the addition of a crown to the club badge.
The design is inspired by the diamonds and pearls of the crown. The traditional white is decorated with pink taken from the crown, while a classy dark green recalls the 2012/13 110th anniversary third jersey.
